The foundation: your body and the mat

Pilates was born on the mat. Without springs to assist you, every movement demands control, stability and conscious breathing — which makes mat Pilates excellent for strengthening the deep abdominal and back muscles, posture and coordination.

What a class looks like

  • Breathing and core activation.
  • Strength and stability work with balls, small weights and resistance bands.
  • Spinal articulation and mobility.
  • Stretching and relaxation at the end.

Who is it for?

All levels — the instructor offers easier and harder variations of every exercise. Mat Pilates is also a great complement to reformer classes: what you learn on the mat carries over to the machine and vice versa.

Mat classes currently run on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 19:00 in Russian. For classes in English, see our reformer group classes.

What is a reformer and how is it different from mat Pilates?

A reformer is a machine with a sliding carriage and springs. The springs add resistance or support, so the same exercise can be gentle or very demanding. On the mat you work with your own body weight and small props. Both strengthen the deep muscles — the reformer gives more options for precise loading.

What are the studio rules?

Please follow basic hygiene rules: come in clean socks and comfortable training clothes. This makes the class pleasant for you and for everyone else in the group.

What language are classes taught in?

Groups are taught in Montenegrin, Russian and English. The language of each class is marked in the schedule.
